1961 CADILLAC ELDORADO

CAR (UK) - - INSIDER -

‘I can remember being awestruck by American cars, particularly of the ’60s and late ’50s. The Cadillac Eldorado with the high soaring ‡in represented America’s desire to get to the moon.

‘It always resonates with me, this notion of using style for true diˆfferentiation in the marketplace. This was an exuberant time to be a designer in America, when the Big Three were ‡ighting for sales. The designers themselves – people like Harley Earl, Virgil Exner – became heroes in America. These cars were very glamorous, and they were huge.’
