> Corrosion is the biggest issue. Look for bubbling on the rear sills and arches – a sign of bigger problems within. Budget £650-£1000 to ix. If untreated it can write o a car. > Make sure the hood drains are clear. A £6 trombone brush sorts it.
> Very early 1.6-litre models featured a shortnose crank that can be troublesome. Either buy a 1991-’94 1.6 or the 1.8. Highly robust, the drivetrain is likely to outlive the body.
