VIA EMAIL In general, I agree with the February Letter of the Month regarding electronic parking brakes. My 987 Boxster had a very disappointing hill-holder function. Maybe it’s because I’ve spent most of my life in very hilly surroundings, but the fact that Porsche felt its owners were incapable of starting on any sort of incline without a nanny was insulting.

The hill-holder was so slow to disengage that I always expected to be hit from behind by some yahoo who hit the gas the instant my brake lights went off. It seemed like an eternity before the car would allow me to move.

My new six-speed 718 Cayman S still has this feature along with the electronic parking brake, but, apparently because the two features could now be combined into the same control software, the hill-holder releases the instant any of the three pedals moves so that I’m not stuck waiting for the car to allow me to go.

Now, if only they could get it to engage as quickly as it releases…
