Trident’s high points
Maserati’s hit a few du notes in its time but its highest points have touched the sky
Blinding grace
A6GCS 1954
Maserati’s Rome dealer gets four bare 2000 Sport chassis clothed in berlinetta bodywork by Pininfarina. The A6GCS inspired the 2014 Alfieri sports car.
Hitting the big time
3500 GT 1957 Maserati’s first GT to be built in significant numbers. A body by Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera, plus the road-car debut of Maserati’s 3.5-litre six.
A mighty wind
Mistral 1963
Mistral uses a shorter chassis than the 3500 GT, made this time with square tubes. The first Maserati named after a wind is the last to use a twin-spark dohc six.
▲The epic grand tourer
Ghibli 1966
Penned by Giugiaro while at Ghia, Ghibli uses a quad-cam V8. 1149 coupes are made but only 145 spyders. Plenty of converted coupes, mind.
▲The fast four-seater
Indy 1966
Named as a nod to Maserati being the only Italian maker to win the Indy 500, the Vignaledesigned four-seater has a Quattroportebased chassis.
