Six questions only we would ask
Tell us about your first car
‘A 1980 Opel Ascona Sport 1.3 [Cavalier in the UK]. Felt like a race car at the time, even though it only had 74bhp.’
What is your proudest achievement?
‘Starting a mobility service in Rwanda, somewhere on nobody’s radar, yet is key to African development.’
Tell us about a time you screwed up
‘Before a speech, I had changed my suit last minute. The speech was in the pocket. What followed was a disaster.’
Best thing you’ve ever done in a car? ‘Driving on a frozen lake in Sweden.’
Supercar or classic car? ‘Classic.’
Curveball… Have Skodas become too polished? Don’t you cannibalise sales from elsewhere in the group? ‘This is unfounded. The movement of customers between VW and Skoda is negligible – from Superb to Passat, it’s three per cent. One bad dealer and you get that number.’
