GLOUCESTERSHIRE

For exploring Gloucestershire, adults-only Briarfields Hotel and Touring Park occupies the ideal location. The site is just a few miles from the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, three miles from Regency Cheltenham and only six miles from Gloucester (with regular buses to both).

Cheltenham is a vibrant mix of the traditional and the new. There’s an abundance of shops and exclusive boutiques, plus a range of dining experiences and a selection of festivals – from literature and music, to jazz and horse racing.

Gloucester is steeped in history, with priories and a wonderful cathedral. Its docks are home to restored Victorian warehouses and the National Waterways Museum celebrates the city’s industrial past.

You must of course venture into the Cotswolds to appreciate the pretty villages set amid rolling hills, with their chocolate-box cottages of honey-coloured stone and winding country lanes. Head to places such as Bourton-on-the-Water, Winchcombe and Stow-on-the-Wold.

WILTSHIRE

One of the most renowned attractions of Wiltshire, the World Heritage Site of Stonehenge stands as a prehistoric monument of unique importance.

With a history of 4,500 years, the stone circle is a wonder of ancient engineering and the exhibition at Stonehenge helps uncover the evidence to try to explain why Neolithic people put so much effort into building the stone circle.

Located in the countryside adjacent to Salisbury Racecourse, Coombe Caravan Park is just 20 minutes from the popular attraction of Stonehenge. As well as being ideal for a day at the races, this open-allyear campsite is only five miles from the centre of Salisbury.

Surrounding the cathedral at the heart of the city are medieval buildings full of history, and inside the cathedral is one of the four original Magna Carta manuscripts.

The very southeast corner of Wiltshire falls within the New Forest National Park and Green Hill Farm Holiday Village is a rural retreat with direct access to the forest. The perfect site, then, for walkers and cyclists. Mountain bike hire is one of the facilities available on this site along with a fishing lake, a café bar and school holiday activities.

Salisbury is a 20-minute drive away, there is a golf course three miles away and, if you have little ones, then Paultons Park, a family theme park, is just six miles away. Whether you’re touring as a couple or a family, there’s plenty to do here.
