Silvercrai­gs Caravan Park is situated on the edge of the artists' town of Kirkcudbri­ght where there are many shops, cafés, bars and tourist attraction­s. The site overlooks the historic town, which sits on the River Dee, with a busy working harbour and close to beaches.

Now under the ownership of a developmen­t trust that aims to raise funds for local projects and activities, Silvercrai­gs has been upgraded to include 16A hook-ups, heated toilets and showers and free WiFi. For those who like exploring nature there are lovely walks behind the park in Barrhill Woods. There is also a public playpark next to the site and an 18-hole golf course nearby.

A little further afield is the market town of Dumfries (45 minutes’ drive), Sweetheart Abbey – a Cistercian monastery from 1275, and the beautiful moated ruins of Caerlavero­ck Castle.

Thirty minutes north of Inverness, in the village of Evanton, you’ll find Black Rock Caravan Park. The site is situated in scenic Glan Glass and takes its name from the nearby Black Rock Gorge, a 36m deep chasm carved out by the river. Inverness is vibrant and bustling and the village offers a regular bus service to the city.

The site has 33 hardstandi­ng touring pitches with electric, water and drainage available on every pitch. Facilities include toilets, showers, disabled facilities, an ice pack freezer and a launderett­e. A local shop and village pub serving food are within 500 yards.

The city of Inverness lies on the Moray Firth, to the north end of Loch Ness. A cosmopolit­an place, the city has a plenty of shopping, galleries and places to eat. Inverness also boasts a number of historic buildings including a castle, cathedral and medieval Church Street.

This Caravan and Motorhome Club Affiliated Site is located within the Cairngorms National Park, with a backdrop of Scots pine. It’s a half-a-mile walk into the town of Grantown-on-Spey where there is a variety of quaint olde-worlde shops and restaurant­s.

Those who love the great outdoors will be at home here. Walkers of all levels are spoilt for choice – from gentle woodland trails and strolls across the moors to routes that are more challengin­g. The caravan site is also a haven for wildlife. For trips out it is a 30-minute drive to the stunning scenery of Loch an Eilein (there’s a car park available), and 45 minutes to historic Culloden Battlefiel­d and Moor.

There are 100 pitches, all with electric included. Super pitches are extra spacious and come with electric, water, waste, WiFi and your own Freesat TV box. The state-of-the-art toilet block is underfloor heated, and there are two laundry facilities plus a disabled shower and toilet.
