Narberth among schools winners
WET weather may have forced the cancellation of the Carmarthenshire primary schools cross country championships, but there was better news for youngsters further west.
All roads led to Oakwood Park in Narberth for the 2018 staging of the Pembrokeshire Primary Schools Cross Country Championships.
In its 28th year, the championships has been led by Pete Freeman who was involved in the first race in 1990.
The Year 3 children, enjoying their first ever taste of competition, got the action under way in afternoon sunshine.
They were followed by the Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 categories. A total of 48 schools were represented and a total number of 1,178 children crossed the line.
Presenting medals to the winning individuals and teams was Wales and British race walker Heather Lewis, who took part in the Commonwealth Games earlier this year on the Gold Coast in Australia.
Team winners on the day came from Narberth, Mary Immaculate, Y Frenni, Lamphey, Gelli Aur, Redhill and Saundersfoot.
Milford Haven, Prendergast, Gellyswick, Spittal, Templeton, Roch and Cleddau Reach were the top three in the team positions in their respective categories.
The Dyfed Primary Schools Cross Country Championships will feature children from Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion when it arrives at the United Counties Showground in Carmarthen at the beginning of April.
