Penclawdd boosted by Loughor slip

-

PENCLAWDD took full advantage of Loughor’s slip at home to stretch their lead at the top of Two West to five points as they won a hard-fought battle at Carmarthen Athletic 13-3.

Cameron Collis got the try and fly-half Dan Guarneri landed two penalties and a conversion to end a run of two games without a win.

Their 14-14 home draw with Tycroes was followed by an 18-17 defeat at Pontyberem, but they gritted their teeth to produce a great team effort in difficult conditions to remain the team everyone else has to chase.

Their next game will also be vital as they host nearest rivals Loughor on November 10 in a game that could see them create clear daylight at the top of the table.

Loughor were beaten at home 23-17 by Tycroes, only their second defeat of the season.

Tumble faced a first-half onslaught from visiting Fishguard and found themselves 32-3 behind at the break.

They recovered some of their poise and restricted the Pembrokeshire side to seven secondhalf points, but still went down 39-29.

Centre Steffan Price, scrumhalf Iwan Morgan and Ifan Smith scored for Tumble and there was a penalty try to earn them a much-needed bonus point.

In Three West A, Laugharne’s home game with Pembroke Dock Quins was postponed, while leaders Neyland lost for the first time this season as they went down 21-15 at home to Milford Haven in their top-ofthe-table clash.

Aberaeron moved to within striking distance of the top with a thumping 70-6 home win over St Davids, racking up 10 tries as they made it four wins in five starts. They are within five points of Neyland with a game in hand.

Cardigan won 34-14 at Llangwm while Haverfordwest were 33-0 victors at bottom side Tregaron.

In Three West B, it’s six from six for Amman United, who took advantage of Nantgaredig being in Bowl action to go top following their 28-22 victory at Bynea.

Amman are four points clear of Nantgaredig, having played a game more, and five clear of Trimsaran, who were also playing in the Bowl.

Something has to give on November 10 as Nantgaredig host Trimsaran.

Llandeilo edged out Lampeter Town 41-39, Llangadog won 31-20 at New Dock Stars and Alex Wigley and Ben Featherstone were among the scorers as Llandybie returned from Penybanc with a 29-23 bonuspoint victory.
