BATTLING TOWN END POOR RUN

CARDIFF MET......................1 CARMARTHEN TOWN.........1

-

CARMARTHEN Town avoided defeat in an away match for the first time this season with a disciplined and determined performance against Cardiff Met.

It was a result that fairly reflected the evenly-balanced pattern of the game throughout most of the match.

In the early stages the play switched quickly from end to end but, with both defences looking secure, no scoring chances emerged.

But on 15 minutes the Met should have taken the lead but Will Evans, from a good position, sent his closerange header wide of the goal.

However, moments later Town went ahead after Mael Davies was brought down in the penalty area and Liam Thomas confidently drove the spot-kick past the keeper and into the corner of the net.

The first half continued in the same fashion, with the Carmarthen defence comfortably resisting the home side’s persistent probing.

After the interval Cardiff Met launched a series of penetrating attacks but they were still unable to make any meaningful progress as the Old Gold continued their well-organised and highly effective defending inside and around their own penalty area, often leaving only Tyrrell Webbe as a lone striker upfield.

However, gradually the Met were getting more crosses into an increasingly congested goalmouth, with Town keeper Lee Idzi busier than at any earlier stage of the contest.

And in the 72nd minute the home side snatched an equaliser with a well-crafted goal. Dylan Rees sent a searching cross into the penalty area where Chris Baker skilfully chested the ball down for Eliot Evans to hit a stunning volley past Idzi and into the net.

The Met continued to press forward in search of a late winner, but the Old Gold survived to deservedly finish on level terms.

Carmarthen remain 11th in the table, level on points with 10th-placed Llandudno, ahead of Saturday’s home game with Caernarfon Town.
