Croft twins shine with classy wins

CRYMYCH boxing twins Ioan and Garan Croft notched up high-class victories in the Wales v Ireland international at Cardiff’s Sophia Gardens at the weekend.

Paired with old rival Jack McGivern, of Belfast, who he had beaten in a very close contest in the Monkstown Cup back in June, southpaw Ioan took part in another cracking bout in which two well-matched boxers produced an excellent display of boxing at its best.

In the end it was the Cardigan boxer who just edged it, earning a unanimous decision following sharp, accurate punching over the three three-minute rounds.

Garan came straight in after Ioan to take on Gareth Dowling of Dublin. He went straight in with shar,p accurate shots from the start, landing several sharp right hands and at one stage looked likely to record a stoppage.

Dowling, however, was made of strong stuff and kept bouncing back with some dangerous shots of his own, although the Welsh teenager won on a split decision.

The twins return to Sophia Gardens this weekend for a Wales v England international, then travel to Prague the following Wednesday for the Julius Torma tournament.
