Giant lantern parade to light up town
A GIANT lantern parade is set to light up Cardigan next month.
Small World Theatre is staging the event on Friday, December 7, thanks to a grant from the Big Lottery Fund and Tesco Bags of Help, which has contributed towards lanternmaking workshops and materials.
The parade will celebrate Visit Wales’s Year of the Sea through the creation of giant lantern structures as well as hundreds of smaller lanterns for a spectacular procession.
Visitors can expect hundreds of small boat lanterns sailing alongside large fish lanterns and music and merriment along the way.
The parade will follow Cardigan’s High Street, go down St Mary’s Street along The Strand and finish in the grounds of Cardigan Castle.
Small World Theatre’s sea monster Cragen is making a special illuminated appearance on the River Teifi below Cardigan Castle. Instead of arriving at Prince Charles Quay, she will appear opposite The Strand marking the end of her magnificent #cleanseas tour cleanseascragen.wales.
Those who are part of the parade will have an opportunity to pause and view Cragen before they continue into the castle grounds.
There will be an abundance of food in the Castle grounds supplied by Kitchen 1176 – expect a traditional hog roast, hot dogs and chick pea and roast pepper burgers.
The restaurant will also offer hot chocolate and mulled wine, plus other hot drinks and a bar will be available.
And this year Cardigan Town Traders is funding a fabulous firework display, creating a spectacular finale to the festive event.
