Gi­ant lantern pa­rade to light up town

A GI­ANT lantern pa­rade is set to light up Cardi­gan next month.

Small World Theatre is stag­ing the event on Fri­day, De­cem­ber 7, thanks to a grant from the Big Lot­tery Fund and Tesco Bags of Help, which has con­trib­uted to­wards lantern­mak­ing work­shops and ma­te­ri­als.

The pa­rade will cel­e­brate Visit Wales’s Year of the Sea through the cre­ation of gi­ant lantern struc­tures as well as hun­dreds of smaller lanterns for a spec­tac­u­lar pro­ces­sion.

Visi­tors can ex­pect hun­dreds of small boat lanterns sail­ing along­side large fish lanterns and mu­sic and mer­ri­ment along the way.

The pa­rade will fol­low Cardi­gan’s High Street, go down St Mary’s Street along The Strand and fin­ish in the grounds of Cardi­gan Cas­tle.

Small World Theatre’s sea mon­ster Cra­gen is mak­ing a spe­cial il­lu­mi­nated ap­pear­ance on the River Teifi be­low Cardi­gan Cas­tle. In­stead of ar­riv­ing at Prince Charles Quay, she will ap­pear op­po­site The Strand mark­ing the end of her mag­nif­i­cent #cleanseas tour cleanseascra­

Those who are part of the pa­rade will have an op­por­tu­nity to pause and view Cra­gen before they con­tinue into the cas­tle grounds.

There will be an abun­dance of food in the Cas­tle grounds sup­plied by Kitchen 1176 – ex­pect a tra­di­tional hog roast, hot dogs and chick pea and roast pep­per burg­ers.

The restau­rant will also of­fer hot choco­late and mulled wine, plus other hot drinks and a bar will be avail­able.

And this year Cardi­gan Town Traders is fund­ing a fabulous fire­work dis­play, cre­at­ing a spec­tac­u­lar fi­nale to the fes­tive event.
