Jailed for throwing rock through a shop window

-

A MAN has been jailed after throwing a rock through a shop window in a bid to sleep there for the night.

Jason Yeo smashed the glass in the door of Deluxe Vapours within the arcade off College Street, Ammanford, shortly after 11.30pm on November 27.

Yeo, 28, of St Teilo Street, Pontarddulais, pleaded guilty to a charge of trespassing with intent to steal, when he appeared before Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

Prosecutor Catherine Miles told the court that in committing the offence, Yeo was in breach of a post-custody licence from a previous offence.

She said on the night in question Yeo had fallen asleep on a bus from Swansea and ended up in Ammanford, missing his stop in Pontarddulais.

He had been intoxicated after drinking alcohol and taken valium before getting on the bus in Swansea and had asked the driver to tell him when they arrived at Pontarddulais.

When he woke up, the bus was in Ammanford with no buses going back to Pontarddulais and no money on him.

Miss Miles added: “Two males saw the defendant pick up a rock and throw it at the glass of the door at the vape shop.

“The glass smashed and the defendant put his hand through to try and open the door but couldn’t get in.”

She added: “The males confronted him and he ran off and shouted he wanted money for a taxi, was not going back to jail and that he had a knife on him.

“The men gave chase and caught up with him and detained him until police arrived.”

Following a pre-sentence report by the probation service, defence solicitor Craig Harding said: “On the night his primary aim was to obtain shelter and not steal from the shop.”

Magistrates jailed Yeo for 18 weeks for the offence and being in breach of his post-custody licence. He was also ordered to pay £100 compensation to Deluxe Vapours and a victim surcharge of £115.
