A PENSIONER was assaulted after he went looking for hoodie-wearing youngsters who had been throwing stones at his house.

People living in Maes y Glyn in Brynamman have reportedly had problems in the last 10 days from a gang of youths wearing hooded jackets and throwing stones at windows.

The window of one woman’s property was smashed. Last Thursday at 7.45pm, William Bale was upstairs at his home in the street when he heard his wife Elaine screaming at people outside.

He rushed downstairs and his wife told him three youths wearing hooded jackets had thrown stones at their window running away.

Seventy- five- year- old Mr Bale decided to get in his car and try to track down the youngsters, and later spotted three boys sitting in a bus shelter.

Holding a torch, he decided to approach them and explain how three boys had thrown stones at his window.

They denied it was them and Mr Bale, who said he had since discovered they were telling the truth, said the situation “became heated”, before he decided to walk back to his car.

But while he walked before away from the scene, he claimed one of the young men he had approached yelled out at him using expletive language, then punched him. Mr Bale explained: “I didn’t expect that language and I asked him why he used it. He then threw a punch to my eye and it knocked me back two or three steps.

“My eye came up straight away and I had blood down my face and neck. My eye was swollen and I could not see. Everything was blurry and grey.”

He went to Morriston Hospital where he had an X-Ray examination. Doctors told him he needed to visit an opticians for further checks.

A spokeswoman for the police said: “South Wales Police is investigating an assault on a man which occurred on Thursday, November 29, at approximately 8.30pm.

“An altercation occurred between the victim and three young males at the bus stop at the end of Glyn Road where one of the young males punched the man to his face.”

She said the three were white, two of them of stocky build and one slim. One had on a white hooded top, and the other two were wearing dark hooded tops. Officers are appealing for anyone with any information to contact them on 101 quoting ref: 1800453224 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
