Pon­ty­berem Work­ing­men’s Club events This Satur­day the club has a band night with the Mock­ing Birds. Tick­ets £5 per en­trant which in­cludes en­try in the raf­fle draw. Doors open at 8pm. Hawthorn tree ded­i­ca­tion Pon­ty­berem and Bancf­fos­fe­len school pupils on Novem­ber 22 took part in the ded­i­ca­tion cer­e­mony in the recre­ation park for a newly planted hawthorn tree. Vil­lage coun­cil chair­man Deris Wil­liams led the event with Ray­mond Evans recit­ing from mem­ory the 1854 poem to Pon­ty­berem’s for­mer leg­endary white blos­som hawthorn tree. The re­vived le­gend is also ded­i­cated to the mem­ory of those who fell in bat­tle from the area in the ser­vice of their coun­try.

OAP meet­ings Tum­ble OAPs meet on the sec­ond Thurs­day of each month in Tum­ble Hall at 1.30pm. Re­cently, they were en­ter­tained by the chil­dren of Ys­gol Gyn­radd Y Tymbl and en­joyed tea and cakes. The Christ­mas shop­ping trip was to Swansea and Christ­mas lunch at the Fal­con Ho­tel, Car­marthen. They look for­ward to wel­com­ing back Car­marthen Ukelele Band for the Christ­mas party. Ys­gol Mei­drim news The school are hold­ing their Carol Con­cert in Mei­drim Youth Hall to­mor­row at 2pm and the com­mu­nity are in­vited to at­tend. There will also be a per­for­mance at 6pm in St David’s Church Hall. On De­cem­ber 13 the chil­dren will be singing in Dol y Felin Care Home and then on De­cem­ber 20 start­ing at 1pm the chil­dren will be singing car­ols in Mei­drim vil­lage when friends are fam­ily are wel­come to join in. Our Christ­mas din­ner is on Fri­day at 1.30pm in Whit­land Rugby Club. Every mem­ber is asked to find their own mode of trans­port. We will also have a Christ­mas raf­fle. Please all bring a prize. On Satur­day, De­cem­ber 15, we will be go­ing to Theatr Felin­fach to see a Welsh pan­tomime. The bus will be leav­ing Mei­drim at 11am.

Mei­drim and Dis­trict Wel­fare Com­mit­tee The Christ­mas party will be held this year on Satur­day, De­cem­ber 15, from 5pm to 7pm in Mei­drim Church Hall for Mei­drim chil­dren 11 years old and un­der. Chil­dren un­der 7 years of age must be ac­com­pa­nied by an adult. En­ter­tain­ment and light re­fresh­ments pro­vided for the chil­dren plus a visit from Santa. Dur­ing the evening we will be serv­ing hot food for the grown-ups — hot suc­cu­lent tur­key and stuff­ing rolls topped with a rich fes­tive sauce, fol­lowed by some mouth-wa­ter­ing mince pies and a freshly brewed cup of tea or cof­fee, all for just £3.50.
