Donated Christmas toys To help celebrate Christmas for all local children, as in previous years, there is a donation of toys box in the Memorial Hall. Pontyberem Workingmen’s Club events This Saturday the club has a band night with the Mocking Birds. Tickets £5 per entrant which includes entry in the raffle draw. Doors open at 8pm. Gruffydd Wyn concert On Saturday from 7pm in the Memorial Hall Britain’s Got Talent winner Gruffydd Wyn performs live on stage. In support are Crwbin Silver Band, Ysgol Pontyberem and Cor Llanddarog a’r Cylch. Further details on 01269 871075.

Hawthorn tree dedication Pontyberem and Bancffosfe­len school pupils on November 22 took part in the dedication ceremony in the recreation park for a newly planted hawthorn tree. Village council chairman Deris Williams led the event with Raymond Evans reciting from memory the 1854 poem to Pontyberem’s former legendary white blossom hawthorn tree. The revived legend is also dedicated to the memory of those who fell in battle from the area in the service of their country.

OAP meetings Tumble OAPs meet on the second Thursday of each month in Tumble Hall at 1.30pm. Recently, they were entertaine­d by the children of Ysgol Gynradd Y Tymbl and enjoyed tea and cakes. The Christmas shopping trip was to Swansea and Christmas lunch at the Falcon Hotel, Carmarthen. They look forward to welcoming back Carmarthen Ukelele Band for the Christmas party. Cyfle i Bawb Members meet on Tuesday afternoons with a quiz and bingo and visits from Cathy with her beautiful cards, Pethau Olyv from St Clears and Angela Hayes from the Stroke Associatio­n spent an afternoon with members who donated £170 to the charity. They have made visits to Festival Park, Ebbw Vale, Cardiff Christmas shopping, the Selwyn Samuel Centre, Llanelli, for tea and entertainm­ent and to Jackies Farm for a charity tea. Ysgol Meidrim news The school are holding their Carol Concert in Meidrim Youth Hall tomorrow at 2pm and the community are invited to attend. There will also be a performanc­e at 6pm in St David’s Church Hall. On December 13 the children will be singing in Dol y Felin Care Home and then on December 20 starting at 1pm the children will be singing carols in Meidrim village when friends are family are welcome to join in. Our Christmas dinner is on Friday at 1.30pm in Whitland Rugby Club. Every member is asked to find their own mode of transport. We will also have a Christmas raffle. Please all bring a prize. On Saturday, December 15, we will be going to Theatr Felinfach to see a Welsh pantomime. The bus will be leaving Meidrim at 11am.

Meidrim and District Welfare Committee The Christmas party will be held this year on Saturday, December 15, from 5pm to 7pm in Meidrim Church Hall for Meidrim children 11 years old and under. Children under 7 years of age must be accompanie­d by an adult. Entertainm­ent and light refreshmen­ts provided for the children plus a visit from Santa. During the evening we will be serving hot food for the grown-ups — hot succulent turkey and stuffing rolls topped with a rich festive sauce, followed by some mouth-watering mince pies and a freshly brewed cup of tea or coffee, all for just £3.50.
