Thomas shines in tight win

-

CARMARTHEN Athletic Ladies’ Hockey Club beat Swansea 4ths 2-1.

Carmarthen’s defence of Kiera Griffiths, Ffion Dart and Nia Sutton stopped a number of Swansea attacks and Carmarthen gradually began to assert themselves.

Carys Thomas and Anna Heath played a number of neat balls forward to dangerous forwards Maya Davies, Rebecca Cartland and Megan Davies.

And the pressure told when Scarlett Mackenzie-Jones fired home.

Carmarthen continued to apply pressure and persistent work earned them a short corner.

And an accurate ball from Maya Davies found Ffion Dart at the edge of the D, and she powerfully swept the ball beyond the keeper to make it 2-0.

Swansea hit back strongly after the interval, but some excellent saves by Jackie Marshall kept them at bay.

The midfield of Anna Knuckles, Eleanor Phillips, Megan Henry, Carys Thomas and Anna Heath also came back to support the defence.

The pressure eventually told when Swansea were awarded a few short corners and from one of them they narrowed the deficit.

But Carmarthen closed out the game to secure victory and they named Carys Thomas their player of the match following her fine work in the middle of the park.
