Group set up to tackle prostate cancer and provide support
A FRIENDSHIP group, the Carmarthenshire Friends of Prostate Cymru, has been formed in the county to help support the charity Prostate Cymru and raise awareness and funds.
Its first event, An Evening With Eddie Butler and Carolyn Hitt, was held at Nantgaredig RFC last month.
The group’s chairman, Deryc Rees, welcomed guests to the evening, which included a threecourse meal courtesy of Wright’s Food Emporium, and a great question and answer session featuring special guests, Prostate Cymru ambassador and former Welsh rugby player Eddie Butler and awardwinning journalist and producer Carolyn Hitt.
Held in the middle of Wales’s autumn interna- tional campaign, Eddie and Carolyn reflected on a unique series which saw the country win both its first game and emerge victorious over Australia, and provided valuable insights for the remaining games against Tonga and South Africa.
The duo’s shared knowledge and passion for rugby was evident as they discussed interesting developments in the sport and shared humorous stories much to the delight of the audience.
Mr Rees said: “What a fantastic first event in the county! It has been really heartening to see the great support from the community so far and I look forward to leading the Carmarthenshire Friends of Prostate Cymru, increasing awareness and the charity’s presence in the county.”
Carmarthen shire Friends of Prostate Cymru committee member and local restaurateur, Simon Wright added: “I was delighted to be involved with the inaugural Carmarthenshire Friends event.
“I would like to extend thanks on behalf of the group to Eddie Butler and Carolyn Hitt, Wrights Emporium and Nantgaredig RFC for their invaluable help in making the event such a success.”
