Theatre revamp to be discussed

-

THEATR Felinfach’s potential as a “powerhouse to energise the cultural economy” will be put to the public in the new year as its future is consulted on.

Two proposals for the popular theatre in the Aeron Valley have been developed with architects DARNTONB3 – improving the existing building at a cost of more than £1.5 million or relocation at the site of the new area school potentially costing up to £4.5 million.

No formal cost estimate has been included as the decision on a new school and where it will be has not been taken yet.

Cabinet will be asked to start a public consultation in January to decide on a favoured option with members of the learning communities overview and scrutiny committee favouring a new build on Wednesday,

19.

The latest feasibility study outlines the new build option and can be “used to form the basis of a development project and a capital application to the Arts Council for Wales and other potential sources of financial support”.

Councillor Mark Strong asked how much “future proofing” had been car- December ried out with a focus on heating systems, parking and building standards.

The new build option was backed by councillor Marc Davies who said: “We have to be ambitious as an authority.”

A previous feasibility study on redeveloping the current site was discussed in June when cabinet approved that the second option be explored further.
