Mayor outlines new year hopes for town
CARMARTHEN mayor Emlyn Schiavone has outlined his hopes and vision for the town over the coming year.
Looking back over 2018, Mr Schiavone said: “There have been some tremendous developments including the first summer festival at Parc Myrddin, the first Winter Wonderland at the town park and the opening of the Egin with S4C relocating their headquarters to Carmarthen.
On the year ahead, Mr Schiavone added: “My particular ambitions for Carmarthen include making our community safe and even more inclusive by embracing initiatives such as dementia friendly.
“We are grateful for the continued commitment of staff in the emergency services as well as town and county council staff.
He also said that the community spirit and helping hands across the town was something to celebrate, adding: “I am particularly impressed with the large number of positive initiatives within the town that are of great benefit to a number of individuals.
“One such example is the achievement of the volunteers who are members of the English Baptist Church in Lammas Street. They run a cafe every Wednesday and all of the proceeds go to local charities.
“The Xcel Bowl in Johnstown continues to operate a much-needed food bank and the availability of furniture was particularly valuable after the severe flooding in October.”
