Probe into beauty spot fly-tipping
AN investigation is under way after a huge amount of rubbish was dumped on a picturesque mountain days after Christmas.
The waste was left by the side of the A4069 near Brynamman in Carmar-thenshire, in an area known as the Black Mountain, in the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park.
Images from the scene reveal the scale of the fly-tipping, with more than a dozen black bags containing different types of rubbish.
Takeaway cartons, plastic bottles, pizza box-es, plastic bags and children’s toys are among the items that have been dumped.
Local police and the council are looking into the matter.
A spokesman for Ammanford Police called fly-tipping an “ugly crime”, adding: “Ammanford officers are investigating this most recent fly-tipping offence in the Brecon Beacons National Park. We will be looking for anything linking it to an address.”
Carmarthenshire Council has confirmed its enforcement officers have been informed of the incident, as the authority continues to clamp down on fly-tipping and littering.
Earlier this month, a teenager was forced to pay almost £600 after being caught throwing rubbish from the window of a car next to a Welsh beach, leading one councillor to label littering as “lazy and irresponsible” and something that “ruins other people’s enjoyment of our communities and beauty spots”.
The penalty for fly-tipping is potentially even more serious as anyone caught committing this criminal offence could be fined up to £50,000 or even face imprisonment.
