Private children’s birthday party On Saturday from 11am in the village hall. New windows Three small windows in the lean-to extension at the rear of the village hall have been replaced with PVCU double-glazed units. This is the latest stage in the conversion of the small extension to a scullery, enhancing the hall’s kitchen. A new dual-fuel range cooker was installed in the kitchen a few months ago. The new windows were paid for from the village hall’s funds.

Panto time Tickets are being snapped up for the Llangain Players’ Little Red Riding Hood to be performed at Llangain Hall on Friday and Saturday, starting at 7.30pm. Best decorated house The judges had no doubt of the winner this year awarding first prize to Darren and Angela Sainty for their wonderful illuminati­ons, and in joint second place were Delyth Davies and Rhian Evans who always make such a grand effort in brightenin­g up the village. Well done to all who took part.

Marie Curie fundraiser On Saturday, January 19, the hall will be the venue for a Bavarian Night with music courtesy of an oompah band. Tickets are £10 each and are now available from the village store or from Una on 241308. Bring your own drinks but food will be included in the ticket price. Start time is 7.30pm.

Poppy Appeal total Ammanford Royal British Legion are delighted to announce that thanks to the generosity of the people of the Ammanford area during the recent Poppy Appeal, more than £15,400 was raised, a magnificen­t amount for an area of our size. West Wales Poundies Dog Rescue The group, who opened their first (hopefully the first of many) charity shops recently, have raffled a (very) large teddy bear which was kindly donated, as well as chocolates, etc, which was drawn by Max from the Jewellery Shop, and £125 raised. Thanks to the ladies who give of their time to work in the shop and who sold raffle tickets – you know who you are. Thank you all from the WWP volunteers, all help is greatly appreciate­d, since most dogs coming in are unneutered, not vaccinated, etc, some need operations and so vets’ bills have been high of late. Full Monty for charity On Saturday, January 12, the Amman Valley Full Monty will be held at Brynaman Hall Cinema (8pm), organised by Saron Hall and Debbie Elias, raising money for breast and prostate cancer charities.

Learn a new year skill Various Get Started short courses are being run by Coleg Sir Gâr’s Ammanford Campus in January. A number of 10-week courses, including childcare, bricklayin­g, playwork, electrical wiring, painting and decorating, health, care, plastering, plumbing, carpentry and tiling. Ammanford Town Band Had a predictabl­y busy December with numerous engagement­s at local residentia­l homes, concerts and shopping outlets playing carols. The Pick (Ammanford Social), Parcwern Old People’s Home, and Tesco store, Ammanford, were just three of the very many venues for the band to visit before Christmas.
