Late strike denies Cwm

-

CWMAMMAN United remain fifth in division one of the Welsh League after a 2-2 draw at home with Cwmbran Celtic.

Honours were even at Grenig Park after Cwmbran snatched a deserved equalizer in the 91st minute.

The game was played at a frantic pace in difficult conditions.

The home side’s first chance came after 15 minutes when Ryan Hurlow rounded the keeper out wide, but his goalbound shot was cleared off the line.

Cwmamman took the lead on 20 minutes when the visitors were unable to clear a free-kick and Nathan McNeil slotted the ball home. But just five minutes later they were reduced to 10 men when Colin Harris was sent off for a lunging tackle.

But Cwmbran also had a man sent off soon after when Rhys Williams stamped on McNeil and was shown a straight red for violent conduct.

With the first half drawing to a close Cwmbran equalised through the prolific Chris Ham.

The second half started brightly for the home side and Brieg Matthews chipped the keeper from 20 yards, but his effort was ruled offside by the assistant.

Cwmbran were starting to stamp their authority on the game but it was Cwmamman who regained the lead on 62 minutes through another free-kick which was powerfully headed in by Chris Allen.

Cwmbran were know looking for the leveller and were pushing men forward but some great defending from Gareth Howarth and McNeil kept them at bay.

Keeper Robert Jones, making his first start of the season, pulled off two remarkable saves.

With Cwmamman hanging on, the sucker punch arrived in the 91st minute when Louis Feeley toe-poked the ball into the net after Cwmamman failed to clear their lines.

Cwmamman look forward to their derby clash with Ammanford on Saturday
