Two off as derby ends all square

-

HONOURS ended even in the Welsh League division one derby as Ammanford Town and Cwmamman United fought out a 1-1 draw.

The New Year clash delivered an entertaining contest between two committed sides, but they could not be separated at the final whistle.

Goalless at the interval, the game came to life in the second half when Cwm’s Ryan Hurlow broke the deadlock by using his pace to take him clear of his markers and he slotted the ball into the bottom corner of the home net.

Ammanford got themselves back into the game with a Liam Samuel equaliser as he picked up a loose ball and fired it into the back of the net.

Ammanford keeper Craig Morris ultimately proved to be the hero for his side as he saved a penalty.

The home side were reduced to 10 men when Dale Jones was sent off for two yellow cards, while Brieg Matthews also saw red for the visitors.

Mid-table Ammanford have another home game on Saturday when they welcome Gwent side Goytre, while Cwmamman, who remain well placed in sixth place, entertain bottom side Taffs Well.
