Carmarthen Rotary Club
CARMARTHEN Rotary Club met on Monday, January 7 for the club’s first get-together of 2019.
President Mary Thorley welcomed members to the Special General Meeting (SGM). The purpose of an SGM is for members to elect a president, vice-president and other senior officers for 2019-20. Past president Raja confirmed his willingness to serve again as president, and members agreed to leave the appointment of the vicepresident to a later date.
Also confirmed were secretary, past president Coralie Steel and treasurer, Robert Hacon Williams.
Past president Raja gave an update on the work in India following the presentation of the Global Grant to the government school in Chennai, India, last year.
Members were also delighted to hear that the bakery project, funded through a Rotary District Grant awarded two years ago, in partnership with Madurai North Rotary Club for students recovering from mental health issues, is now going from strength to strength. Their products are proving to be very popular and rapidly becoming a thriving business.
The club would like to thank the staff and management of Tesco, Carmarthen, for allowing a Christmas collection which raised approximately £330 which was to fund special presents for children at the Myrddin Special Unit.
President Mary brought greetings from the Rotary Club of Golders Green and Rotarian and Foundation lead Rose Rowland brought greetings from the Rotary Club of Bishop’s Stortford.
