Charity fundraisin­g evening for your diaries – a top night of entertainm­ent with proceeds for a worthy local cause. On Friday, April 5 at 7.30pm Y Felin Suite at Betws Rugby Club will be hosting a charity fundraisin­g event ,a cabaret evening featuring Ceri Dupree, full of fun and frolics! All proceeds to help a brave little girl facing ongoing treatment, to the ‘Hannah Rose vs Leukaemia’ cause. Bereavemen­t John Lyons, of Oakfield Road, Twyn, Garnant, sadly passed away last week. John had before his retirement been employed in the mining industry and worked at the former Abernant Colliery. He had been married to his dear wife Freda for 57 years in December. Our deepest sympathy to Freda and all the family on their loss.

Ysgol y Bedol pupils are now back and enjoying their lessons following the festive break. Pupils have been learning about various things in their lessons, including Miss Gimblett’s class learning all about Tahiti and Kenya, and Miss John’s pupils learning about how to tell the time.

Charity show Clwb Godre’r Mynydd Du, Glanaman, will be holding a fundraisin­g charity show on Saturday, January 26, commencing at 7pm, and featuring Cor Meibion Dyffryn Aman, and also Jac y Do. All proceeds will go towards the ongoing Paul Pugh Fund.

Clwb Hamdden Club members meet on Tuesday for their annual general meeting from 2pm in the Bancffosfe­len and Crwbin Hall.

Council grants Annual grants to local groups have been agreed by the community council: Neuadd Bancffosfe­len £3,000 – includes £2,500 for the hall’s upkeep and £300 in support of the post office – Capel Pisga £100, with Bancffosfe­len Soccer Juniors, Clwb Hamdden, Crwbin Silver Band, Sioe Bancffosfe­len and Ysgol Feithrin Bancffosfe­len each receiving £50. Crwbin Silver Band Rehearsals each Tuesday 7pm to 9pm and each Sunday 6pm to 8pm in the band room led by the musical director Craig Roberts. British Legion Headquarte­rs The Legion building is to open downstairs for the bingo every Monday-Thursday, Saturday and Sunday evening. Usually at 8pm. Admission 50p, last bingo books 7.50pm.

Rotary Club antique evening The Pembrey and Burry Port club will be hosting an evening with Phil Serrell, the TV antiques expert, on Tuesday at 7pm in the Ashburnham Hotel. Phil is known for his appearance­s on Antiques Road Trip and Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is. He will give an insight into his world of antiques and will be selecting and speaking about a few antiques that people attending can bring with them. Tickets are available from any Rotary member or email pevans3836@aol.com at £15 each, which includes a three-course meal.

Pembrey Burry Port WI The next meeting is on Tuesday at 2pm in Jerusalem Chapel vestry. The WI meet on the fourth Tuesday of each month.

Art exhibition Audrey Ranson and Hilary Smith of Burry Port Art group are exhibiting their paintings and textile work in the Harbour Light tearoom at Burry Port harbour until the end of January. The tearoom is open Wednesday to Sunday from 11am to 4pm but closed Monday and Tuesday.

Ty Golau Group This is a health and wellbeing group for people with slight memory problems, Alzheimer’s/ dementia-type illnesses and meets every Wednesday at Mynyddygar­reg Community hall from 10.30am to noon. Activities include reminiscen­ce therapy, themed quizzes, singalongs, simple cookery and much more. Why not come along, keep your brain active, meet new friends and have some fun. Friday is the Llanelli pantomime trip with first pick-up at Pembrey at 6.15pm. Monday is the yoga group at 10.30am with Richard Rees at £2 per session.
