Drive-through? No, we’ll just drop in for our takeaway!
WORKERS at a crane hire company in Carmarthen got creative with their new crane – they used it to pick up a McDonald’s takeaway.
The 40m beast is mostly used for lifting heavy loads of anything up to 10 tonnes by owners Davies Crane Hire.
But the team thought they’d show off its remarkable precision skills, too, by lifting a man to his lunch break.
Malcolm Davies, who owns Davies Crane Hire, said they did it for a bit of fun and captured the whole thing on video.
Mr Davies said: “We rang up McDonald’s the day before and they said it was fine.
“So at 12.30pm, I rang them up to order my food, and said I was on my way. Then I climbed into the crane’s basket.
“The crane is about 40 metres high, I went over the trees, and was lowered right in front of the door. They came out with my meal and I went back over.
“It only took about ten minutes, I was eating my chips on the way back over.
“The driver was at the top of the crane driving it, and I was speaking to him via radio the whole time.
“Because there were trees in the way, he didn’t have a line of sight, but I was directing him and there’s a camera on the basket too.”
He added: “I got a Big Mac, of course.
“McDonald’s was loving it, they thought it was brilliant. Everyone on the ground thought it was great.
“We get some unusual jobs, for example in [TV show] Casualty, when they do car crashes. We do all sorts of jobs.”
