Town look to unlock Quay and cause another big surprise

-

CARMARTHEN Town will be looking to inflict another shock defeat on Connah’s Quay Nomads as they chase a place in the Welsh Cup quarter-finals this weekend.

The Old Gold knocked the North Walians off the top of the JD Welsh Premier League in the final game before the mid-season split when they battled back to claim an injury-time 3-2 victory over Quay two weekends ago.

That was up there with Town’s best performances of the season, and they will probably need a repeat of that display if they are to progress to the last eight of the cup.

Despite that shock reverse, the Nomads will start as favourites on Saturday when they head to Richmond Park.

They are just two points off the table — only Barry Town United and The New Saints sit above them — and have won 14 of their 22 league matches to date.

But they were made to struggle in their round-three clash at Guilsfield, being forced into extra time before eventually seeing off the Mid Wales outfit 4-2.

Town made it through to the last 16 with a convincing 3-0 win at Welsh League side Goytre United. Kick-off is at 2.30pm. Llanelli Town were knocked out of the competition at the third-round stage when beaten 1-0 by Llangefni Town. But they are also in action this weekend when they take on Costcutter League side Newcastle Emlyn in a friendly.

The match at Parc Emlyn starts at 2.30pm.

The game could feature new Llanelli signings Joe Dyer and Emile Kpama Ngoy, who have both signed on at Stebonheath this month.
