Stars on the beach as new TV series gets into Gear
JUST when you thought you’d seen it all on Top Gear . . .
The new team of presenters have kicked off filming for their 2019 series at a popular Pembrokeshire beach.
Paddy McGuinness and Andrew Flintoff were spotted at Tenby Harbour on Saturday filming for the show’s 27th series.
The pair were driving a bright blue converted hearse, dubbed The Overtaker, along the harbour walls as part of a Top Gear challenge.
After spending the morning at the pretty seaside town, the presenters then headed to Pendine beach to continue filming, where they raced around a course marked out with deckchairs and ice cream vans. On the windswept beach, where Malcolm Campbell set the land speed record in 1924, The Overtaker, driven by Flintoff, was seen racing an AMG Mercedes Estate at high speeds. The Mercedes was being driven by The Stig, with two more Stigs in the back.
McGuinness, a comedian, and former England cricket captain, Flintoff, have joined existing presenter Chris Harris to complete the new-look line-up for later this year.
The pair took over from Matt LeBlanc, who announced in May 2018 he would be stepping down from presenting duties.
In between takes, the presenters took time to meet fans and pose for selfies. Angie Pennington, from Pembroke, was there with partner, Stewart Ryan, and 13-year-old Lizzie Hughes. She said: “It was amazing to meet them, and to take some selfies.
“Nothing was too much trouble for Paddy and Freddie posing with the fans that turned up. Although the weather wasn’t the best, it didn’t put a dampener on things.”
