Youth Opera rev up for 40th celebration

-

CARMARTHEN Youth Opera’s 2019 production, which opens next month, is Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

The seven performances of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang marks the start of a year of celebrations as the company has now been successfully running for 40 years.

Mike Rogers, CYO’s chairman, said, “We are one of only 60 out of 350 applications fortunate enough to be granted a licence for Chitty in 2019.

“This is the perfect production for our 40th anniversary and a show that has been on our horizon for many years. We are delighted to have secured this spectacular family musical that has a universal appeal.”

Based on the 1968 film version of Ian Fleming’s children’s book, and featuring an unforgettable score by the Sherman Brothers, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a family-friendly musical that audiences will find “Truly Scrumptious”.

Director Daniel Williams is well aware of the demands of such an iconic show.

“I’m delighted to be directing Chitty in the show’s 50th anniversary, as well as it being our landmark 40th year,” he said.

Opening night at The Lyric is on Tuesday, February 26, with evening performances at 7.30pm throughout the week and a final performance on Saturday, March 2. Wednesday and Saturday matinees will start at 2.30pm.
