Inquiries under way after car found on railway track

A CAR had to be removed from a railway track in West Wales after it was driven onto the line on Thursday night.

Trains were stopped after a car ended up on the line near Kidwelly railway station at around 10.40pm.

Officers from British Transport Police were called to the scene, along with officers from DyfedPowys Police, to remove the car from the tracks and help take a man to a “place of safety”.

A spokeswoma­n for Transport for Wales confirmed that the car was spotted on the Kidwelly side of the Bertwyn crossing by a freight train driver, who reported the incident to Network Rail.

The car was eventually removed by 1.15am.

Inquiries are currently being carried out to try to find out how the car ended up on the railway track. The man was not injured during the incident.

A spokeswoma­n for British Transport Police said: “At 10.42pm on Thursday, January 24, British Transport Police were called to the track close to Kidwelly station following reports that a car was on the line.

“Officers attended the scene, alongside colleagues from DyfedPowys Police, and removed the car from the tracks and a man was taken to a place of safety.

“No injuries were reported.

“Inquiries are now under way to understand how the car came to be on the tracks.”
