The Hub/Hwb Tomorrow there will be a an opportunity to learn more about the setting up of a power of attorney and Lynne Ansell will talk on journeys with her mother, a personal account of looking after someone with dementia. Lynne’s talk will begin at 11.15am but you are welcome to drop in from 10.30am to relax with a cup of tea and meet friends and newcomers to the village.

Marie Curie fundraiser What a great evening of music, movement and laughter this event was in the company of Baron Von Schmidt Haus, a one-man Oompah Band. A packed hall joined in enthusiastically with what was a Llansteffan version of a German beer festival. Traditional food and drinks were consumed in the party atmosphere and well done to Una Davies and her trusty band of friends and family who helped it all go with a swing – literally. Ryan Davies was a superb master of ceremonies and Simon Charles a great auctioneer. The amount raised for Marie Curie Cancer Care is in the region of £3,000 so a grateful thanks to all who gave the wonderful auction items and supported the night. Church service Next Sunday is the first Sunday of the month and the fifth before Lent and there will be congregation-led morning prayer at the usual time of 9.45am. The local ministry area is moving forward and Llansteffan is well represented hopefully to secure our future. Please join other parishioners for a cup of tea following the service to learn more.

Hall council meeting At the recent meeting of members of the Memorial Hall Council it was good to know that scaffolding would be erected on the January 28 for initial work to begin in replacing troffins, soffits, etc. Soon after it is hoped that replacement windows can be installed and this may cause some disruption to users of the hall so please look at the notice board outside the hall for the latest updates on activity. The key will no longer be readily available to users and is in the hands of John Evans, the hall caretaker, but as soon as possible a digilock or keysafe will be installed and relevant committee members notified. The indoor bowls each Tuesday is proving to be very popular and a representative from the group will be invited to join the hall council. Some adjustments within the hall were discussed with a view to making it less cluttered. Proposals were also made for an upgrade of the stage facilities. Chris Jones tendered his resignation as secretary and was thanked for his contribution over recent months. The AGM has been moved to Friday, March 15, at 7.30pm and this is an opportunity for all interested parties to come along and see what is involved.

Jazz and swing at the Farmers Arms Put it in your diaries now. On Thursday, February 21, the Keith Marshall Band, aka Swing Machine, featuring Julie Jackson on vocals is playing in the Farmers Arms, Llanybri, from 8pm to 10pm. The usual food menu as well as Thai meals will be available but it would be advisable to book. Please ring 01267 241503. There is no charge for the entertainment, which will be a mixture of unique arrangements of well-known tunes with the big band sound. If this evening proves popular it could become a monthly event.
