Crannog get a cup fright

-

COSTCUTTER League joint leaders Crannog were given an almighty fright by Llanboidy before going through to the semifinals of the Easter Monday Cup with a 5-4 win after extra time.

The previous week the coastal villagers sauntered to a 6-1 win against the same opposition at Cae Dandre, but it was a different story this time around.

Llanboidy were left feeling flat after looking like reaching the last four when leading 3-2 in normal time, but the visitors pulled the tie out of the fire and went on to win.

In a thrilling game, Gary Davies (2), Robbie Evans, George Colven and Rhys Davies were on target for Crannog. Bart Kasperski (2), Celt Tomos-Jones and Jack Griffiths netted for the hosts.

Crannog will take on Felinfach in the semi-final after the latter won 3-0 against visitors Aberaeron Reserves.

Teenage utility player Lewis Evans was the goal hero for the Milkmen when putting them ahead and wrapping up the game late on with a third goal after Joe Jenkins had hit the second.

Cardigan Town eased their relegation fears with a 7-0 win over bottom side Bargod Rangers at King George V Playing Field.

Rangers were in contention when trailing by two goals at the interval, but Town moved up a gear during the second half.

Iwan Jones grabbed the limelight with a well-taken hat-trick, but it was essentially a team effort by the Magpies.

Jones netted the first goal and Llion Williams doubled the advantage before half-time.

During the second period Steff Davies netted a third and Williams got the fifth before Jones netted twice to complete his hat-trick.

The Lampeter Town v St Dogmaels game was called off because of the unplayable state of the North Road pitch, which was inspected by referee Alan Thomas during the morning.

Unbeaten division two leaders Dewi Stars clinched promotion with a 4-1 win over second-placed Aberporth at Llanddewi Brefi.

Gethin Thomas put the Stars in front from the penalty spot, but Dan Nicholl with a header at a corner squared matters for the Airmen before the interval.

Stars were under the cosh for a spell during the second half, but the visitors appeared to run out of steam and conceded three further goals.

Ifan Thomas, brother of Gethin, regained the lead with a well-placed low shot from the edge of the penalty area, Shencyn Jones beat three players before chipping home from 20 yards for the third, and Gethin Thomas completed the scoring with his second penalty.
