LOCAL SOCCER WATERS IN FLOW AS SPORTS GO BACK TOP

-

TROSTRE Sports are back on top of the Premier division of the LTC Mobility Carmarthenshire League following a 9-5 win at home to Pwll Athletic.

The fans were treated to a goal feast, with striker Chris Waters grabbing a hat-trick to put Trostre in control.

It was 5-2 in favour of Trostre at the break, and there were goals also from Anthony James, Liam Preece, Ashton Jones with a penalty, Rhys Griffiths, Corey Thomas and Ashley Lewis.

Mike Morgan fired in a hat-trick for Pwll, with Joe Pullman and Matthew Davies also on target.

Knocked off the top of the table were Evans & Williams, who crashed to an astonishing 7-0 defeat at home to Gorseinon Athletic. It was 3-0 at the break.

Four of the goals for Gorseinon were shared by Nathan Logan and Sam Wade, while Gareth Phillips, Ashley Thomas and Louis Jackson were the others to find the back of the net.

Still right in the title hunt are defending champions Bwlch Rangers, who are just four points adrift of the leaders after a commanding 6-0 win against visiting Loughor Rovers. It was 2-0 at half-time.

Striker Jordan Follows and Matthew Hughes struck with two goals each, the others being scored by Clayton Jenkins and Matthew Williams.

After going 2-0 behind early on in the game against Pontarddulais Town, visiting Pengelli United battled back to win 5-2. It was 2-2 at the interval.

The fightback was inspired by Ewan Lindsay and Luke Rees, who shared four of the goals, and Craig Jones with the other.

Trallwm dominated for most of the 90 minutes against visiting Dafen, eventually winning 3-0 thanks to goals from Kris Brown, Simon Griffiths and Chris Griffiths.

The weather became so bad by mid-afternoon that the clash between Tumble United and visiting Killay was abandoned after 33 minutes.

In the game between the top two clubs in division one, Burry Port inflicted on title favourites Pontlliw only their second league defeat of the season when winning 2-1.

After a goalless first half, Burry Port began strongly after the break and went ahead when full-back Darren Mahoney burst into the box.

And they doubled their advantage when Josh Element rounded the keeper and steered the ball into an empty net.

Pontlliw got back into the contest thanks to a 30-yard screamer, but the hosts held on.

CK Swiss Valley are also going well, climbing into fourth place in the table following a hard-earned 2-1 win at home to Camford Sports.

At half-time it was 2-0, with Kevin Daniels and Alex Griffiths netting for CK Swiss Valley.

Despite going close in the first 10 minutes, Penyfan United didn’t make the best of starts to their game at home to Llandeilo Town.

Trailing 1-0 at half-time after playing against a strong wind in the opening 45 minutes, there was more trouble to come when the visitors doubled their advantage in the 48th minute.

Penyfan, however, were far from finished, pulling a goal back seven minutes later courtesy of Leighton Pugsley. The same player equalised in the 70th minute.

From that point on there was only going to be one winner, so it came as no surprise when Christopher PriceWilliams shot Penyfan ahead for the first time in the game direct from a free-kick.

His brother Curtis Price-Williams made it 4-2 in the 78th minute, but missed a penalty seven minutes later.

After failing to win their previous two games in the league, Llandovery Town bounced back with a hardfought 3-1 win at Pembrey. Chris Hyde netted twice, one a penalty, while also on target was his brother Tom.

The derby between Ammanford Town Reserves and visiting Caerbryn was postponed because of a waterlogged ground, while the referee called a halt after 19 minutes to the clash involving Kidwelly Town and visitors Johnstown, who led 1-0 at the time.

There is no change at the top of division two, and West End United continue to set the pace after a 3-1 win at Drefach. Nathan Lewis scored two of the goals, and there was one for Curtis Evans.

Second-placed FC Carmarthen were awarded a 4-0 win at Hendy, who failed to raise a team, while Carmarthen Town United won 5-3 at bottom club KRUF.

After breaking the deadlock on 20 minutes through Scott Jarvis, the same player made it 2-0 in favour of Carmarthen just three minutes later. Josh Martin also netted twice, and there was one for Rhodri Williams.

The home team refused to throw in the towel and were rewarded with consolation goals from Curly Kinsey, Cian Anderson and Ashley Hobson.

Chris Bowen scored two of the goals for Carway in their 4-1 win at Llanelli Park Rangers. Also on target were Zak Hartley and Robert Maynard.

In the best of the action in reserve division one, runaway leaders Evans & Williams had to settle for a point in the 1-1 draw at Pontlliw. A Kyran John goal wasn’t enough to earn the title favourites maximum points.

The game between Gorseinon Athletic Reserves and visiting Bwlch Rangers Reserves also finished all square at 1-1. A first-half goal for Gorseinon by Matthew Cannon was cancelled out after the break by Dan Jones.

In the only other game to last the distance in the division, a hat-trick by Cody Williams was only enough to earn Seaside Reserves a point from a 3-3 draw away to Pengelli United Reserves.

The goals were cancelled out by Mitch Davies, Sam Williams and Ceri Thomas.,

The remaining match between Pontarddulais Town Reserves and visiting Loughor Rovers Reserves was abandoned after 50 minutes.

On Saturday there are eight ties in the fourth round of the West Wales Intermediate Cup. Of the three survivors from the Carmarthenshire League, only Johnstown enjoy the luxury of a home tie.

The division one side have been drawn against relegation-threatened Mumbles Rangers of division one of the Swansea Senior League.

Premier division outfit Trostre Sports have to travel, but have a sporting chance of reaching the quarter-finals at the expense of Plough Colts, who are challenging for promotion from division two of the Swansea League.

Bwlch Rangers also take to the road, but on paper face a tougher test against Neath League Premier division title contenders Giants Grave, who knocked out Trallwm 3-1 in the third round.

In the TG Davies Cup, there are seven ties scheduled. Three of them are in the second round and there are four in the third round.

All three Premier division clubs involved in the second round play teams from lower divisions. Pontarddulais Town host Pembrey, while Gorseinon Athletic and Pwll Athletic journey to CK Swiss Valley and Caerbryn respectively.

There is one all-Premier division tie in the third round, with Dafen hosting Evans & Williams.

When the two teams met on the same ground in the league back in September, it was Dafen who came up trumps 6-2.

Evans & Williams gained their revenge in the return fixture when defeating Dafen 3-2 at home in November.

In the remaining third-round ties, Premier division sides Loughor Rovers, Tumble United and Seaside are away to Burry Port, Felinfoel and Penyfan United respectively.

In the Premier division, Killay entertain Carmarthen Stars and Pengelli United are at home to Trallwm.
