A nine-year-old Carmarthen boy has used money raised from raffling off a birdbox he made with his dad to buy snacks and toiletries for patients in Glangwili Hospital. Kaiden Thomas, who lives in Johnstown, raised a total of £250 through the raffle and used the money to buy crisps, chocolates soft drinks, soaps, deodorant and other hygiene supplies for the most vulnerable patients currently in hospital.

Specifically, the items were delivered to the maternity ward and the Covid-19 ward where porters met Kaiden outside the hospital to take delivery of them.

With visiting not allowed at wards across the hospital due to coronavirus restrictions, Kaiden, who is a pupil at Richmond Park Primary School, wanted to do his part and help in any way he could.

His mother Joanne, a fashion student, also helped make wash bags which were also donated to the hospital.

She said: “He was helping his dad Malcolm make some things for the garden and decided on a bird box.

“It was then that asked me if we could sell the bird box and buy things for the hospital. “I thought it was a great idea and I never thought we would raise £250 from the raffle, people were very generous.”
