Manon goes extra mile for NHS staff

-

MANON Phillips may be only eight years old, but she has been running a mile a day for a whole month to raise money for Hywel Dda NHS staff.

Manon, who lives just outside the village of Peniel, north of Carmarthen, loves gymnastics and trains with the Carmarthenshire School of Gymnastics.

She is being supported on her runs along the country lanes near her home by mum Kelly and dad Deian, along with brother Harri, aged three.

Mum Kelly said Manon was really enjoying the challenge and seeing her fundraising total rising.

She said: “It’s a case of avoiding the tractors and there are a lot of hills!

“But Manon said she wanted to raise money for all the amazing people working for Hywel Dda.

“We are very proud of her and she is getting very competitive, trying to beat her time each day.”

Manon, who is a pupil at Peniel primary school, said on her JustGiving page:

“I have decided to raise money for all the amazing people working for Hywel Dda.

“I have see a lot of great things on TV and I would like to do something to help.

“I will have been running a mile every day in May in all weathers - it will be a total of 31 miles.”

Manon is just one of many children who have been moved by what they has seen over the last weeks with the nation backing the incredible efforts of the NHS, not just here in west Wales but across the UK.
