Comic launches podcast to help lighten the mood

- IAN LEWIS Reporter ian.lewis@walesonline.co.uk

CARMARTHEN  BORN comedian Rhod Gilbert is launching a podcast to help lighten the mood of lockdown.

Joining him will be his wife and comedy writer Sian Harries.

Together they will present the show from home, which is called The Froth.

It has been described as “something appealing, but with no serious value or interest; worthless or insubstantial talk”, which tongue firmly in-cheek they say is the married comedians in a nutshell.

In this new comedy podcast, Rhod and Sian will be brushing the relentless, depressing, serious news cycle under a thick shag pile carpet and focusing forensically on the frothy stuff; using stupid news stories from around the world, their own lives and plenty of listener stuff too.

Irreverent and chaotic, it will be wall to wall nonsense with serious chat strictly forbidden.

Rhod and Sian said The Froth is a place to let your brain slip i n t o someth ing mo r e comfortable, a spa break for the mind. Covering everything from celebrity tittle-tattle to madcap science, frivolous sporting news, harebrained business ideas, plucky pets and much more. E v e r y week, they will go down to their basement with a special guest ( remotely d u ring lockdown), their dog.

They will talk, bicker and make up, phone friends, call upon experts, check in on famous people as well as family members to see “what the froth” they are doing.

Rhod said: “We can’t wait to get podcasting again.

“With no live work for the foreseeable future, we finally have time to go down to the basement and launch the show nobody has been waiting for.

“Along the way we will be calling old mates from school, family, famous friends and experts about anything and everything, but usually to resolve our petty arguments.” and

Rhosie

Highlights recorded so far will include fellow comedians Sarah Millican on the mile-high club, Josh Widdicombe on accidental WhatsApp messages, Jason Manford on lockdown haircuts, a published neuroscientist about addiction to the snack Monster Munch, an old school friend about breaking wind in a strip club and Greg Davies’s views on feet.

You get the picture, the chat is frothy with Rhod and Sian ringing anyone, anytime, about anything.

The Froth will launch on June 8, at www.acast. com www.thefrothpodcast.com and all other podcast platforms.
