Internet council meeting In light of the Welsh Government lockdown restrictio­ns Pontyberem community councillor­s held their May 28 meeting via the web. Several updates on procedural metters were received; including news that the next Urdd Eisteddfod for Carmarthen­shire has been set for 2022. Pharmacy times Pontyberem’s pharmacy is open Monday to Wednesday and on Friday from 9am to noon, then 2pm until 6pm; on a Thursday 9am to noon, then from 2pm to 5.30pm. A queueing zone operates to restrict the shop to serving one customer at a time. CKs The village supermarke­t operates from 7am to 8pm seven days a week. Currently the store allows up to 10 shoppers in at one time. Hours of the Post Office in CKs are Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, lunch break 12.30pm to 1pm; Saturday 9am to noon; closed Sunday. Pontyberem defibrilla­tor Villagers are reminded that there is a defibrilla­tor for 999 emergency use at the front of Pontyberem Memorial Hall. Instructio­ns on its use and an intercom for medical direction are within the coded secure unit. It is available 24 hours a day seven days a week.

Village volunteers Pontyberem Community Council is co-ordinating local volunteers to help vulnerable villagers, especially the elderly, with shopping trips and keeping in touch during the corona virus emergency. Upper Gwendraeth Valley Food Bank Please pass on the message about this food bank which has been set up for individual­s or families who have been affected economical­ly by the Covid-19 pandemic. Those eligible have either become unemployed as a result of the pandemic, or been placed on furlough, or lost income because of reduced hours or are self-employed and waiting for benefits, Based in Tumble Hall, it serves the north of the Gwendraeth Valley from Gorslas to Ponthenri and food parcels will be distribute­d on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons.
