Family’s ‘toddler safe pond’ is a hit with other parents
A CARMARTHEN family has created a ‘toddler safe pond’ for their daughter made with blue stones and fake ducks which has proved a hit with other parents.
Benjamin and Beth Staniforth said the house they bought two years ago had a garden with a pond in it, but for safety reasons they drained it.
Benjamin, aged 29, explained: “We moved into our house when our daughter Grace was nearly two and walking.
“Straight away I was concerned she might fall in after I myself fell into my grandparents’ pond when I was younger.
“I had a plan in mind how it would look but never envisaged it turning out the way it did.
“I’m so happy, the whole garden has had a transformation but the pond by far is my favourite part of the project.
“It’s completely toddler friendly.”
Benjamin and Beth bought blue stones to create the water look and added a few fake ducks to make it look authentic.
While solar lights complete the look and bring the creative pond to life at night.
They even revamped the pond with a little bridge which was already in place but needed some work.
They have now shared their finished project on the Facebook group Mrs Hinch Made Me Do It which has seen many other parents from across the UK commenting on the post and loving the family’s ‘safe’ idea.
All the materials were bought locally and the family is over the moon with the results.
Benjamin added: “Grace loves the pond, especially the ducks.
“She has been waiting patiently to go near the pond and play.
“She also helped me complete the finishing touches including placing the gnome who she refers to as her Grandpa who is a keen fisherman.”
Benjamin, when asked for advice for any budding and creative DIY enthusiasts, said: “I would certainly encourage anyone with an idea like this to go for it, the feeling when it all comes together at the end is amazing, knowing you’ve put your own stamp on something makes it worth it when it’s finished.”
