Creepy Grim Reaper appears at village

-

A CREEPY figure urging people to ‘keep away’ has appeared in a Carmarthenshire village.

The large Grim Reaper has been spotted near the roadside between the rural villages of Blaenwaun and Cwmbach. In its hand is a large wooden plank warning others to ‘keep away’ from his home.

The figure has appeared amid the current coronavirus pandemic.

The striking figure can be seen by those travelling north of St Clears and it is the creation of Sean Birch who lives in Cwmbach.

Sean, who is a train driver for Transport for Wales, said: “It’s made from old dust sheets and concrete powder and stood up by a cross I made.

“Chainsaw carving is my hobby but at the start of lockdown I decided to clear out my workshop a bit and decided to create the Grim Reaper as a bit of fun and put it on the road at the end of the driveway.

“The whole thing only took a day to put together.”

The message ‘keep away’ has however caused the opposite effect with people driving past to take photos of the imposing figure.

It has also had much attention on social media too.

Sean added: “It’s had a lot of attention and the plan is after lockdown, I’m going to start making a welcome bear to replace the reaper.

“That’s going to be a chainsaw project and I have a tree trunk ready, that’s a project that will take a few weeks.”

Despite its intimidating stature, Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed that it had not received any complaints about the reaper. Police forces across the country have been carrying out coronavirus-related patrols, with many drivers being stopped by officers after travelling across the border from England.
