New chair of council One of Bancffosfelen’s community councillors has been recently elected as community chairman for 2020-21; Gareth Harries succeeded to the post on June 11 following on from fellow Bancffosfelen councillor Elwyn Jones.

Bancffosfelen defibrillator Local residents are reminded that there is a defibrillator attached to the Bancffosfelen and Crwbin Hall for use in emergencies. Instructions on its use and an intercom for medical guidance are with the unit.

Open again Y Pot Blodyn (garden centre) at the National Botanic Garden of Wales is now open from 10am to 5pm every day. So , if you want to stock up on peat-free compost, plants, seeds, pots and other garden items, do go along. Admission is free. The main garden, the coffee shop, the second-hand bookshop and the toilets are still closed.
Food bank A new food bank has been established by the Church in Wales in accommodation at the back of Cross Hands Public Hall. It is open from 10am to 12.30pm. Contact Rev Jones on 07976 836209 any time. Either ring and collect or deliveries are available in local communities. Please only use delivery if self-isolating and can not get out. Drefach Park With the gradual easing of lockdown conditions there is no better way to get out for some fresh air in your lungs than by visiting the park, which is still open. Whilst the Children’s Corner is closed, the perimeter pathways are there to be enjoyed. Please do not use the keep fit equipment or sit on the benches. Also, remember social distancing and keep your dog on a lead.
Tumble Surgery The practice is requesting that people only contact the surgery by telephone. Doctors will decide whether patients need a consultation over the telephone or in person. Prescription requests should be placed in the letter box of Meddygfa’r Tymbl and in the box at Cross Hands Surgery. The medication will be available at the pharmacy you choose, either in Tumble or Cross Hands, but you are asked to allow 72 hours for the prescription to be ready.

Kidwelly & Mynyddygarreg Community Action Response: Covid-19 We are a group of volunteers that are here to offer support and help during this coronavirus health crisis for the people of Kidwelly and Mynydd-yGarreg. At present we can offer support through the internet or if you prefer on the telephone to alleviate loneliness and worry should you need to self-isolate. Also at present, we can offer a door drop-off service for provisions should you run out. We are aware that many groups, organisations and events have been stopped or cancelled, particularly for older people. We are here should you feel worried or lonely. Kidwelly in Bloom 2020 For those wishing to enter this year’s competion, forms will be available from Castle News, Bridge Street, or Kidwelly Post Office, Station Road, at the end of June. There will be four categories – best front garden over 25ft; best front garden under 25ft ; best hanging baskets and best display of pots/containers. Date for judging will either be the end of July or beginning of August and will be confirmed ASAP.

Community Council AGM The village’s annual general council meeting on June 11 was conducted via the internet to meet coronavirus rules. Councillor Gareth Harries was elected chairman for the forthcoming municipal year; so too as deputy chair Councillor Yvonne Lewis. Mrs Lewis, Coalbrook Road, was appointed chairman of the Pontyberem memorial hall charitable trustees. The outgoing chair, Elwyn Jones, was thanked for his efforts for the previous year.
Bus service The 195 bus service has been re-introduced after a gap of two months; two-metre distancing rule applies on board. Further details from First Cymru.
Pharmacy Pontyberem’s pharmacy is open Monday to Wednesday and on Friday from 9am to noon, then 2pm until 6pm; on a Thursday 9am to noon, then from 2pm to 5.30pm. A queueing zone operates to restrict the shop to serving one customer at a time.
CKs The village supermarket operates from 7am to 8pm seven days a week. Currently the store allows up to 10 shoppers in at one time. Hours of the Post Office in CKs are Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, lunch break 12.30pm to 1pm; Saturday 9am to noon; closed Sunday. Pontyberem defibrillator Villagers
