Santa will be making a visit despite Covid-19 pandemic
SANTA will be making an appearance in the Llandeilo area despite the coronavirus pandemic.
In a effort to lift people’s spirits and kick off the Christmas period, Llandeilo Round Table has vowed to bring out the sleigh to light up the faces of children, even if the festive period will feel different this year.
Santa and his sleigh have been a fixture in Llandeilo and surrounding villages for decades.
Ed Rees, Llandeilo Round Table member, said: “Llandeilo Round Table has been taking our Santa sleigh out for over 50 years.
“It’s a bit like Trigger’s broom, it’s had many replacement parts, lights, sound and structural rebuilds every year to keep it safe but essentially the same sleigh.
“Come rain or shine our guys have been out there bringing festive cheer to thousands of people, young or old and the response we receive is fantastic.
“This year the Covid-19 situation makes things a little different and at first we thought we simply wouldn’t be able to do it.”
He added: “Apart from the children missing out it is also our main fundraiser for the year and all our donations to local causes for the coming year will be affected.
“Even without the normal fundraising we felt this year perhaps more than ever families need to see Santa is still out there and Llandeilo Round Table will continue to do it’s its bit for the community.”
Mr Rees added: “We will not be knocking on doors and collecting cash as we normally do.
“We know many people like to donate cash and often save their change for us each year so a couple of our ‘elf and safety’ guys will have buckets on the end of two-metre poles if people wish to come out of their homes and donate as the sleigh passes.
“Also this year we have, for the first time, set up a gofundme page for anyone who wishes to help our cause of supporting our local community.
“We will also have a tracker linked to our Facebook page (https://www. facebook. com/ Llandeiloroundtable) so people can see exactly where Santa is on the evening.”
