Close finish as big field turns out in senior event

-

THERE was an excellent turnout of 72 players for the latest seniors competition at Carmarthen Golf Club.

They reverted to a fun format, a Chapman Foursomes competition. Played in pairs, each golfer drives, they then swap balls for the next shot, with the best-positioned ball used to finish the hole.

Despite the trying conditions the scoring was again excellent, and the winners were John Bevan and Alan James with 45 points.

Two pairs came in with 44 points, with Alan Edwards and Rob Lincoln just pipping Dafydd Williams and Robert Jayes courtesy of a better back nine.

In fourth were Cliff Webb and Mike Davies on 42. The back nine was also needed to split Jeff Harries and Ray Harley from Clive Harrison and Mike Getley, with both pairs scoring 41.

The final competition before Christmas is a three-man Texas Scramble.

The seniors are pinning their hopes on some fine weather to allow them to take to the course before Christmas.
