Family and friends of Margaret Jones, Dreonnen, celebrated her 90th birthday on December 14. All in the village send their salutations for this wonderful occasion. Christmas food donations Seasonal treats such as tinned biscuits, boxes of chocolate, tinned desserts and jars of candied fruits, can be donated at the Memorial Hall for local families in need of extra Christmas cheer. Under the auspices of the community council pre-packed food gifts can be left by the public each Thursday between 8.30am and 8.30pm; Monday to Wednesday and on Friday between 8.30am and 9.30pm.

Local Covid figures rise again

Community councillors were told that in recent weeks confirmed covid cases had risen steeply for the Pontyberem and Glyn area, reaching 237.6, with 23 more residents confirmed with Covid 19 up to December 1. The figure for Carmarthenshire for Covid 19 in September was 47.1, whereas now it is 241.6 per 100.000 population.

Covid volunteers Liaised by the community council more shopping volunteers are sought to help deliver groceries and/or medicines to the Covid vulnerable. While there are a number of volunteers at present doing great service more assistance would be much valued. To use the home delivery service or to offer help please contact the community clerk on 07415 355659.

Post Office times The local Post Office, in CK’S supermarket, Coalbrook Road, operates from 8am to 8pm seven days a week.

Pharmacy NHS flu jabs The local pharmacy offers free flu jabs for those over 65 along with the at-risk groups. Free flu jabs are to be arranged for those aged 50 to 64. Outside these groups a flu jab is available, subject to supplies, for £12.50. Check online at well.co.uk/flu Coronavirus support lines Free mental health support is available to isolated individuals via the Wales Mental Health Helpline on 0800 132 737 or text 81066. A similar free service is offered by the Red Cross, between 10am and 6pm daily, on 0808 196 3651.
