Our NHS must be protected

-

WHILE we are all distracted by the uncertainty surrounding a new variant of Covid and Brexit talks, our NHS is in grave danger.

As loyal Conservatives, both Simon Hart and Stephen Crabb voted against measures that would safeguard our NHS from future trade deals during a debate in July.

The UK Government’s hollow refrain is that the NHS is ‘not on the table’, but sadly experience has shown that often they cannot be trusted to keep to their word – with dire consequences for our country’s health and prosperity.

The House of Lords recently voted to protect our NHS and now it is time for MPS to do the same.

Therefore, when the Trade Bill returns to the House of Commons in January, I call on all elected representatives in the Hywel Dda Health Board area, no matter their political colour, to support the two amendments which will ensure that the NHS is better protected in future trade deals.

At this darkest hour we know NHS staff will do their utmost to protect us from Covid-19, but can we trust Mr Hart and Mr Crabb to do the right thing by them in the Trade Deal debate? Time will tell...
