Dad’s thanks for staff at hospitals

-

A FATHER-OF-TWO said he feels lucky to be alive after spending eight weeks in intensive care at Carmarthen’s Glangwili Hospital.

Martin Lewis, 51, was rushed into the hospital’s intensive care and after five operations finally started on the road to recovery, which involved four months of rehabilitation.

After coming home, Martin wanted to say thank you to NHS staff and asked for donations instead of birthday gifts, raising £230 for Sunderland ward at the South Pembrokeshire Hospital in Pembroke Dock, where he rehabilitated.

Martin, a financial adviser from Pembroke, said: “My illness was caused by an infected wisdom tooth.

“I will be eternally grateful to the staff at Glangwili Hospital and the staff at Sunderland ward at South Pembrokeshire Hospital.”

He added “I want to thanks the cleaners and catering assistants, who put up with my grumpiness each day, the health care assistants, the nurses, the doctors, the physiotherapists, every single person involved.

“And a big shout out to the ambulance drivers who transported me to and from dialysis with such care and humour.

“I’m a stubborn soul and don’t give up easily,” he added.
