Sums of £100 each have been given to Capel Caersalem, Capel Soar and St John’s Church. Allocation­s of £50 each awarded to the Camera Club, Clwb ar ol Ysgol, Cymdeithas Hanes Gwendraeth, Fforwm Menter Ieuenctyd, Merched Y Wawr, Nant Y Glo Residents Associatio­n, Papur Y Cwm, Pontyberem Over 50 Club, Pontyberem Rugby Juniors and Ysgol Feithrin Pontyberem.

Covid volunteers Liaised by the community council more shopping volunteers are sought to help deliver groceries and/or medicines to the Covid vulnerable. While there are a number of volunteers at present doing great service more assistance would be much valued. To use the home delivery service or to offer help please contact the community clerk on 07415 355659.

Post Office times The local post office, in CK’S supermarke­t, Coalbrook Road, operates from 8am to 8pm seven days a week.

Pharmacy NHS flu jabs The local pharmacy offers free flu jabs for those over 65 along with the at-risk groups. Free flu jabs are to be arranged for those aged 50 to 64. Outside these groups a flu jab is available, subject to supplies, for £12.50. Check online at well.co.uk/flu Coronaviru­s support lines Free mental health support is available to isolated individual­s via the Wales Mental Health Helpline on 0800 132 737 or text 81066. A similar free service is offered by the Red Cross, between 10am and 6pm daily, on 0808 196 3651.

Food bank The Upper Gwendraeth Valley Food Bank is closed until January 11. Pembrey and Burry Port Foodbank will be open and may be able to help. Meddygfa’r Tymbl The surgery asks that all enquiries are made by telephone. You will still be able to get advice from a doctor, or other health profession­al, either over the phone or in person. You can also use an online consultati­on service for advice; you complete a series of questions online and a doctor will review these. Vaccine Public Health Wales states that Covid-19 vaccines will be offered first to those at highest risk of suffering serious complicati­ons from the virus. All eligible adults in the priority groups will be invited to make an appointmen­t through NHS systems so please wait to be contacted.
