£2,770 raised by running every day

-

AN Ammanford man has raised more than £2,700 for former Cwmamman United AFC player Paul Pugh by running 10km every day for a month.

Grant Rees set himself the challenge of 31 runs, starting in November – he finished on Christmas Eve – with the initial target of raising £1,000.

However, a Justgiving page has raised almost triple that with £2,770 so far, which will go to Paul and his family.

Paul was viciously attacked by a group of men while out enjoying an evening with friends in Ammanford on January 6, 2007.

Four men, then aged between 20 and 24, were jailed for the attack.

Injuries Paul sustained meant he lost his speech and the use of the lefthand side of his body.

However, his determined spirit and hard work have enabled him to partially recover from these injuries.

Grant, who plays for Cwmamman United, is still inspired by the bravery of Paul, an inspirational man who tirelessly campaigns to raise awareness of the dangers of alcohol and drug abuse.

Paul, who was initially told he would never walk or talk again, has visited schools, colleges and youth clubs throughout

Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and Powys over the years to talk about the issues of drug and alcohol abuse and violence.

Grant said all donations from his run will go directly to Paul. Grant was welcomed by family and friends at the end of his final run on December 24.
