New year message

Brenda Stubbs, as chairman of the Pontyberem Over 50 Club, issued a new year greeting to members: “It has been nearly a year since we last gathered together,” she said, “and it now appears it will be a while yet before we do so again. While wishing all members a happy and healthy 2021 we all trust that in a few weeks time, as spring dawns, we will witness a reversal in the dreadful effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and that we can look forward with renewed hope.”

The matter was brought up at the last community council meeting after residents along Greenfield Terrace and Capel Seion Road had pointed out the long and, during the winter, hazardous trek to the main bus stop on Station Road and more pointedly the long walk back in the dark up the hillside while laden with shopping. The matter has been referred to the county council, which is responsible for subsidising rural bus services.
