OUT WITH THE OLD? ABSOLUTELY NOT

-

YOU won’t hear me proclaiming 2021 is my year, I intend to tread with caution into the new year. There is light at the end of a very dark tunnel in the form of a vaccine, but 2020 taught me the art of restraint and I intend to exercise it, heed the lessons learnt during the pandemic and live by a new set of rules in the world PC (postcovid), although I admit I am nervous to even utter the phrase so prematurely.

I see 2021 as an opportunity for metamorphosis.

We have made such important strides in the last 10 months in terms of fashion becoming more sustainable, I’m excited at the prospect of expanding on this and seeing where it can go.

We can start with the purchases we have made most recently.

Last year, loungewear became a buzz word and most, if not all of us, invested in some form of casual sportswear.

We aren’t just going to stop wearing casual clothes, they have a become a part of our life uniform, but we can get clever with how we style them. Lose the slippers, swap the puffer coat for tailoring, switch out the cotton track pants for a (faux) leather version. Make it look new, fresh, ready for action, or as the fashion magazines would say,“luxe up your loungewear”.

If you haven’t heard yet, the “It” bag of 2010, the Mulberry Alexa (named for model/ presenter Alexa Chung) is making a comeback for Mulberry’s 50th anniversary.

If like mine, your decade-old bags are more shabby than chic, The-restory. com is the website for you, a modern day cobbler for well-loved bags and shoes their list of services includes re-stitching, scuff repair, and colour restoration. Torn linings and missing tassels are catered for too. It’s a one-stop shop to make your old accessories like new, because, if you didn’t already know, old is the new new.

‘It’s back: If you’re lucky enough to have an original Alexa, like Alexa Chung, get it restored
