Rowlands is fresh injury concern for Pivac’s staff

-

WALES have a new Six Nations injury worry after second row Will Rowlands failed a head injury assessment last Friday night.

Rowlands left the field shortly before half-time of Wasps’ remarkable 52-44 victory over Bath.

Wayne Pivac is already set to be missing Scarlets lock Jake Ball (knee), while Alun Wyn Jones is currently injured.

Rowlands is expected to begin the tournament in pole position for a place in the starting XV amid some fine recent form.

Wales are due to announce their squad for the tournament in a matter of days, with the opening match scheduled against Ireland on February 7.

Meanwhile, Ellis Jenkins is closing in on his long-awaited return from injury after resuming training with Cardiff Blues.

The 27-year-old has had three operations on his knee since suffering a horrendous injury while on international duty against South Africa in November 2018.

But Blues assistant coach Richard Hodges has confirmed the flanker is expected to return to action in the near future.

“Ellis Jenkins trained fully (on Wednesday). He is in a good spot,” said Hodges.

“Hopefully we are not too far away.

“We have a game for Ellis to aim for now.

“We will keep that internal, but things are looking very positive.”
